Case study: Chiseldon, Wiltshire
We completed a full re-thatch of a substantial property in Chiseldon, Wiltshire. The thatch was completed in combed wheat reed with a flush ridge.
When we inspected the property, the thatch had been overcoated in water reed, which was not in keeping with its heritage. Straw base layers were observed from inside the roof space. Listed building consent was obtained to return the thatch back to combed wheat reed.
We carefully removed the water reed layers and completed the re-thatching work including two porches and a bay window. The ridge had hazel detailing and duck straw finials. We even gave the thatched well a makeover.
